Remains of Missing Woman Found in Patterson

Laelcira Delima had been missing since 2017.

On Saturday, February 1, the latest development in a two year-old missing person case came with the tragic discovery of the remains of a missing Connecticut woman in Patterson. Laelcira Delima of Danbury had been missing since October of 2017.

53-year-old Laelcira Delima was last seen on October 20, 2017 by family members when she departed her residence in her red 2016 Honda Accord. Several weeks later, on November 7, he car was found abandoned in the parking lot of the Putnam Diner, located at 2600 Route 22 in Patterson. For more than two years, an investigation and search made no headway in discovering the whereabouts of Ms. Delima.

On the late morning of February 1, a hunter scouting new locations in Patterson would make a chilling discovery. At approximately 11:34 a.m. Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call reporting that a human skull had been discovered in the woods behind the Putnam Diner. Police arrived on the scene where they were met by the hunter, a 35-year-old Carmel resident who remained at the scene until Deputies came to secure the area.

The scene would be investigated by members of the Putnam County Sheriffs Department, as well as special investigators from the Sheriff Department’s Forensic Identification Unit. Deputies would canvas the area for several hours, discovering additional human bones as well as a sneaker and additional articles of clothing.

According to a statement by a spokesperson for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, all the remains were discovered within a 30-foot radius. Authorities believe that the body may have been disturbed by animals. It was also reported that the remains were not found in a grave, and that no note was found at the scene.

Detective Lt. Mark Williams of the Danbury Police Department issued the following statement: “We are saddened to announce that the remains of Laelcira Delima were discovered in a wooded area off of Route 22 in Putnam, NY on February 1, 2020. This is a tragic end to a two and one-half year investigation into her disappearance, originally reported to the Danbury Police. Ms. Delima’s identity was confirmed on February 10th by Putnam County officials, who subsequently notified the Danbury Police. We refrained from making a statement until we were sure that next of kin had been notified. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Ms. Delima’s family and friends.”

The investigation into Ms. Delima’s cause of death is ongoing.
