LTC Kevin Smith
Earlier this month, a Pawling native received another accolade in an already decorated career in service to our country. Kevin Smith is the son of Wilbert and Joan Smith, a 1999 graduate of Pawling High school, an Eagle Scout from Troop 34, and a 2003 graduate of West Point. On February 1, family members were present for his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
LTC Kevin Smith has previously served as the Battalion Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Officer for 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne); Company Commander for 24th Quartermaster Company; Detachment Commander for the 56th Chemical Reconnaissance Detachment, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Chief of the Chemical Training Department at the US Army CBRN School; Deputy Division CBRN Officer for 1st Cavalry Division; Brigade Operations Officer for the Fort Hood Warrior Transition Unit; Brigade Operations Officer for 1st ROTC Brigade; and CBRN Officer for the US Army Special Operations Command.
His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC); Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC); Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC); Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC); Humanitarian Service Medal; Combat Action Badge; Parachutists Badge; and the Royal Netherlands Army Parachute Wings.
