Dutchess Tourism, Inc. (DTI) announced the slate of board members who were elected to three-year terms at the board’s annual meeting on January 16. Members are as follows: Brent Caster from Bonura Hospitality; Colleen Cruikshank from Northern Dutchess Hospital; Wesley Dixon from Vassar College; Stancy DuHamel from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy; Elaine Hayes from Mount Gulian; Gaye Mallet from Adams Fairacre Farms; community volunteer Barbara Malley; Debra Pemstein from Bard College; Andrea Reynolds from the Dyson Foundation; and Brandon Walker from B&L Hospitality/Essie’s Restaurant.
The board also elected officers at the meeting for fiscal year 2020. Judy D’Alessandro from the HYATT house in Fishkill will serve as board chair while Angela LoBianco-Barone will be vice chair. Additionally, Cruikshank will serve as secretary and David Bova from Millbrook Vineyards & Winery will serve as treasurer.
“The board members, professional staff, and I are committed to ensuring the continued success of the tourism industry in Dutchess,” said D’Alessandro. “Our mission is to provide the maximum economic benefit to our communities and we are thrilled to have the support of our many partners, including County Executive Molinaro, the Dutchess County Legislature and the Dutchess County IDA, as we focus our efforts on responsible, sustainable growth.”
Dutchess Tourism President and CEO Mary Kay Vrba noted, “Tourism is a shared community asset. By promoting Dutchess County as a world-class destination, we can develop opportunities to build quality of life for the benefit of every resident.” She added, “With this strong team in place and our strategic plan, we are poised to compete with every other destination for our share of visitors, talent and investment.”
Tourism is New York State’s third largest industry. In 2018, visitors injected $642.2 million into Dutchess County’s economy and generated enough tax revenue to reduce the tax burden by $743 per household. It also supports the livelihoods of county residents in the form of 11,024 jobs with a combined income of $352 million dollars that then get spent on things like homes, groceries, and other goods and services.
