Celebrating Community

More than 600 guests stayed to watch the fireworks show.

On Saturday, July 13, over a thousand visitors flocked to Lakeside Park for Pawling Community Day. This year marked the second incarnation of the event, which built on the success of last year’s inaugural celebration.

The days festivities began with the running of the 32nd annual Pawling Triathlon, followed by the first ever Youth Triathlon, which saw more than 200 athletes of all ages participating. After the morning’s athletic competitions, the park would begin to fill up with guests anxious to enjoy the beautiful weather. Booths from area merchants and community organizations lined the great lawn, and families were soon barbecuing while children flocked to the waterfront and enjoyed bounce houses, face painting, and a scavenger hunt. The afternoon featured appearances by Sheriff Butch Anderson, Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro, and Senator Peter Harckham.

Community Day boasted a continuous lineup of live music from Blue Alien Mystic, Wading Nine, and Space Dogs, leading up to the performance by the Fat City Rockers to officially open the 2019 Music by the Lake concert series.

Finally, the long day of festivities would culminate with a fireworks show in the sky above Lakeside Park. More than 600 guest stayed until dusk to watch as the skies over the park exploded with color, bringing the long day of community involvement to a close. After the conclusion of the events, Recreation Director Jessica Dickinson was appreciative of the efforts of everyone involved in making the the day a success.

“There was something for everyone this year at Community Day,” she said. “The weather was perfectly hot and sunny as most enjoyed the waterfront and it’s new accessories. Music was playing all afternoon and we enjoyed Lakeside Park to its fullest. This day included food, desserts, a bounce house, face painting, local organizations, crafters, and businesses. The day ended with a spectacular showcase of fireworks with a Grand Finale that was one of a kind! Very special thanks goes out to Yankees President Randy Levine who hit it out of the park with his generous donation towards the Community Day Fireworks. All of our sponsors of the Triathlon and Community Day enable us to do valuable things year-round alongside Pawling Youth Development and we thank you from the very bottom of our heart. We look forward to another year full of excitement with Pawling Recreation!”
