PFD Carnival Returns August 7

The PFD Carnival will once again be held in Lakeside Park.

On Wednesday, August 7, the Pawling Fire Department Carnival is back for four nights of festivities, food, and fun. A favorite summertime tradition in Pawling, the event will once again return to Lakeside Park, and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Last year, PFD officials made the decision to move the carnival from the usual location on Charles Colman Boulevard, citing the lack of appropriate space for rides and attractions. “We’re thrilled to be back at Lakeside Park again this year,” says PFD Chief Everett White. “It’s a much more user-friendly venue. We don’t have to worry about traffic or the train, and overall it’s just more family-friendly.”

This year’s carnival will feature games and a dozen rides provided by All Star Midway Inc. All food will be prepared by members of the PFD, and the Ladies Auxiliary will once again be running Bingo Under the Lights. Wristbands for unlimited rides will be available for $25 each night.

In addition to the usual carnival offerings, the traditional fire department parade will be held on Friday, August 9, with step off at Town Hall scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Organizers have invited more than a dozen fire companies from surrounding towns to participate. The festivities will conclude with a fireworks show at dusk on Saturday, August 10.

Organizers are hoping for better weather for the 2019 carnival, as last year’s festivities were dampened by a week of rainy conditions. However, in spite of the inclement weather, the community still had a strong showing in support of the department. “It rained every single night last year,” recalls Chief White. “But the residents still came out and supported us.”

Although the annual Carnival serves as a fundraiser, the festivities are really held each year as a way for the Pawling Fire Department to show their gratitude to the community. “We do the carnival to thank the community for their ongoing support throughout the year,” concludes Chief White. “None of this would be possible without all their donations and help. We take great pride in the fact that this is our way to say thank you to the community for all they do for us.”

The 2019 PFD Carnival will be held from Wednesday, August 7 through Saturday, August 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Lakeside Park, 2 Lakeside Drive.
