July Recreation Spotlight
We’ve been talking a lot about our “vision” here in the Recreation Department, and at the root of that vision is you! This is why Community Day on July 13 is so important! We want you to connect with us at Lakeside Park and showcase your best as an individual, a family, a business, or a local organization.
Every day we “live, work, and play” all the things Pawling Recreation has to offer. This year, Community Day involves many key pieces coming together for a bigger purpose. Here’s the scoop on what to expect at Pawling Community Day:
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Triathlon & Community Spirit)
To begin the day, our 32nd Annual Pawling Triathlon will be the athletic event not to miss. At 9:00 a.m. sharp, racers will take the stage as they swim, bike, and run through the park, the Village, and the Town. New Adult Relay options are available so teams can experience a triathlon together. A Youth Race has been added so kids ages 6 – 15 can rise up to this multi-sport challenge with a modified, much shorter distance course. At 12:00 p.m., these young athletes will travel a route contained within the park to swim, bike, and run across the finish line as their parents and community members cheer them on!
Even if you aren’t a race participant, we are asking that you get involved and cheer along the route. Along with participant awards, we will honor local community members with “Community Spirit Awards” this year. Encouraging each other along the race route will now be awarded at the highest level with a special award dedicated to the group of people or an individual who goes out of their way to cheer along the race route.
1:00 p.m. -8:30 p.m. (Family Fun, Food, Swimming, Music & More)
We continue the energy after the race as vendors pop-up within the park and the waterfront opens to the public at 1:00 p.m. The lake is full of new activities geared towards family enjoyment and unique experiences. Our gigantic 16-foot water slide will entertain patrons of all ages. There is more to do on the lake than ever! Our fleet of “Corcls”, Kayaks, “WGWAGS”, and Paddle Boards are sure to provide hours of family fun. Did you know that as a Lake Member your season pass includes all waterfront activities and boat use? For those purchasing daily passes, there is an additional equipment fee. If you choose to enter the waterfront area on Community Day, the lake will operate with extended hours from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Family fun can be enjoyed all around with some new editions to the schedule. For example, a Community Create-A-Crossword Challenge will be hosted at 3:00 p.m., an indoor Pickleball Demo will happen at 4:00 p.m., and your Pawling Recreation Department will be hosting a special Town Tie-Dye Tent!
Bounce Houses, outdoor sports, and backyard-style games will be available all day long while food, vendors, and local organizations will be showcasing our friendly community. Music will play all afternoon with a number of acts from Blue Alien Mystic, Wading Nine, and Space Dogs! At 6:00 p.m., our Music by the Lake headline performance from Fat City Rockers will take the stage.
9:00 p.m. (Fireworks Show)
Make sure you are here long before show time to enjoy the evening with us. Fireworks will rock the park over the lake at 9:00 p.m. to end a spectacular day. We can’t wait to celebrate this day full of excitement for everyone. Our Pawling community thrives when we show up in full force. Let’s “live, work, and play” at Pawling Community Day!
Keep checking in with us for future updates as the schedule continues to grow.
