On the morning of Saturday, May 18, members of the American Legion Halser-Kamp Post #215 met with youth from the Pawling scouting community to share the traditions of honoring our nation’s veterans and following the United States Flag Code.
As the Charter Organization for Pack 34, Hasler-Kamp has hosted this event for the Cub Scouts on Armed Forces Day for many years. Attendees gathered at Pawling Veteran’s Cemetery mid-morning. From there, youth volunteers were dispatched with bundles of flags to veterans’ graves within St. John’s Cemetery and the Pawling Cemetery, while American Legion members drove to other nearby cemeteries. Afterward, the scouts were given an opportunity to raise and lower the flag and practice proper procedures for folding the flag. Members of Boy Scout Troop 34 and Pawling Girl Scout Service Unit 109 also participated in this annual springtime ritual.
