A group of Pawling Girl Scouts wants to make sure that local students have everything they need to hit the books. The ten 5th graders, who attend Pawling Middle School, are collecting school supplies for children in kindergarten through 6th grade.
Pawling Girl Scout Troop 10291 is working with the Pawling Resource Center (PRC) to fill backpacks in an effort to earn a Bronze Award, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can achieve. The troop is excited to partner with the PRC, which they have enjoyed helping many times during the past six years.
“I’m very honored to be working with such an amazing group of Girl Scouts,” says Cheryl Knowles, who leads the troop with fellow Pawling resident Heather Covell. “Their hard work, dedication, love, and commitment to our community are inspiring. I’m very proud of them for choosing such an important project to benefit Pawling students.”
Helping other kids is the priority for this group of girls, who are working together to make a difference in Pawling. They decided to plan, organize and fulfill a school supply drive because they believe that serving schoolchildren in our amazing community is an important part of being compassionate Girl Scouts.
Residents can help Troop 10291 give back to the community by donating new school supplies, such as pens, colored pencils, folders, loose-leaf paper and binders. Collection boxes, which include a full list of supplies accepted, are located throughout town, including the Pawling Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall, the Pawling Recreation Center in the Lathrop Building at Lakeside Park, the Pawling Resource Center, the Pawling Scout Cabin, Pawling Sunshine School, Christ Church Nursery School, Mizzentop Day School, and the main offices of all three Pawling schools.
Members of Troop 10291 will be collecting donations on Sunday, April 28, and Sunday, May 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., outside McKinney and Doyle Fine Foods Café and Bakery in the Village of Pawling. Monetary donations are also appreciated. Checks made payable to GSHH Troop 10291 can be mailed to Pawling Resource Center, P.O. Box 331, Pawling, NY 12564.
