February Recreation Spotlight
Change is a wonderful thing and a positive force. With some new perspective from many angles, Pawling Recreation has created waves of real and tangible change with everyone’s help. We’ve only just begun. Between facility updates at Lakeside Park, new programs for every age group, summer camp planning, seasonal hiring, and executing big events such as the 32nd Annual Pawling Triathlon, we are proud to serve this vibrant community with many recreational opportunities that you can now find right in your backyard.
Facility updates have been the most evident recently. New floors have been installed in the Lathrop Building and fresh paint smiles at anyone walking through the doors. Public wi-fi is now available within the entire building when you visit or rent a space for a private event, business meeting, or community program.
For toddlers and preschoolers, we now offer Mini Mingle Hour. At 1:00 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, young ones can play in our indoor interactive playground along with their caregivers for a play date without the hassle of hosting.
For children in grades K – 8, we hold a variety of Rec Clubs each month after school. We will also host our next monthly Kids Night IN (While Parents Go OUT) on Friday, February 15. Our first Kids Night IN during January was very popular and Village Merchants even contributed to a “parent coupon” to redeem locally that night while their children have fun at Lakeside for a few hours.
“Amped for Camp” Days are now available during spring break and select summer days when school is not in session. These are individual camp days when you need them the most and run from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The Interact Club continues to meet each Tuesday night and work on service projects together. They will be taking a trip in February to the Ronald MacDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley to prepare a meal for the families staying there. On May 5, they are planning an entertaining 5K event called “Rock N Run” Against Lyme Disease with live music every mile throughout Lakeside. Money raised will go toward Lyme disease research.
For adults and seniors, we have a Free Lunch & Learn Series each month with some food, fantastic information, and good company. Our next one, a Mardi Gras Pizza Party hosted by The Grand at Pawling, is coming up on Tuesday, February 26. More Free Lunch & Learn dates continue on March 19 and April 23. Our next Adult Paint Party has been scheduled for Friday, March 15. We have added a new trip for adults and seniors to the Aquaturf Club on April 16. Transportation, entertainment, and food are all provided for one low fee. Other adult programs like Yoga, Zumba, Meditation, Adult Basketball, and Co-Ed Volleyball are ongoing.
At the Holmes-Whaley Lake Civic Center, Pawling Recreation will host our first “Decades Dance” on March 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This multigenerational event will feature music from each decade. All ages and all family members are welcome to groove with us!
Online registration for all waterfront memberships and programs will begin on March 1.
The Pawling Community Egg Hunt & Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 13, at the PFD Firehouse featuring some new features, including a laid back, traditional, and adult egg hunt. Our eight-week Summer Camp begins on July 8, and the Pawling Triathlon will be held on July 13. These are two big seasonal endeavors that are also going through major changes.
