Village Board Approves Sewer Rate Schedule
On Monday, January 7, the Village Board convened for the first meeting of the new year. The evening’s agenda included approval of the rate schedule in connection with the operation and maintenance costs of the municipal sewer system following a recent public hearing, as well as a resolution to expand the Village Sewer District.
Following a public hearing in December conducted by the Pawling Joint Sewer Commission (PJSC) on the proposed PJSC budget for 2019, the Village Board considered a resolution to approve the rate schedule for the sewer system in the amount of $856,791.00.
“It was a lot of moving parts, so we had help from our consultants to get it right moving forward into this year with the opening of the new plant,” said Village Trustee and Joint Sewer Commissioner Dan Peters. “I think we’ve arrived at a very good number, there really won’t be any changes for anybody and, going forward, I think it’s only going to get better.”
Officials explained that the new rate schedule represents no increase in costs to residents. The Village Board unanimously approved the sewer system rate schedule in the amount of $856,791.00, as well as debt retirement costs for the sewer system of the Village of Pawling Sewer District #1 in the amount of $236,338.00.
In other business, the Board approved a resolution for the introduction of Local Law 1 of 2019 to extend the Village Sewer District to include the entire Village of Pawling. This process will begin with the preparation of a map, plan, and report for the new extended area of the district. “It’s about time that all parcels of the village will be in the district,” said Mayor Robert Liffland. “We’re working with the county, and we have some degree of funding for it,” added Dan Peters. “The next step is to identify areas where we’re going to start, then find funding. We’ve been pretty successful about finding funding, and hopefully that will happen in the very near future.”
A public hearing on Proposed Local Law 1 of 2019 has been scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on February 4, 2019, to be held at Village Hall.
At the close of the meeting, the Board announced that the next Village Board meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, will be held, instead, on Wednesday, January 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall, 9 Memorial Avenue because of a scheduling conflict with the Village Planning Board.
