CBD Coffee Comes to Reverie

A burgeoning trend in New York City coffeehouses has made its way to our area as Reverie: Coffee & Craft Beer in Patterson is now offering Cannabidiol (CBD)-infused cold brew coffee. In doing so, Reverie becomes the first coffeehouse in the area to offer this unique craft coffee infused with organic hemp oil, which can aid in relieving pain and reducing anxiety, according to the restaurant’s website.

CBD is a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid molecule found in hemp plants. It is non-psychoactive, and does not cause a “high.” Instead, proponents explain that CBD works with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) to promote homeostasis and well being.

Reverie is partnering with Strava Craft Coffee, a specialty roaster based in Denver, CO.

Strava’s selection offers full-spectrum CBD coffee sourced from growers in Europe and Colorado and is available in several different strengths. Focus has 2.5mg of CBD per 16 ounces, while Restore has 9mg of CBD per 16 ounces. Reverie is also planning to offer a third variety called Elevate, which will boast a higher concentration.

“CBD coffee is nothing new,” explains co-owner Megan Denaut. “It helps ease anxiety and pain. We did a lot of research, and we tried it ourselves. I don’t like to offer things to our customers without doing that first. We had good results with it, and we definitely feel like it can help people with the stresses of life.”

According to Denaut, most shops offering CBD coffee simply add the hemp oil in after brewing, but the CBD coffee at Reverie is different. “The beans are soaked in CBD after roasting, and it infuses more,” says Denaut. “It’s recommend to brew as cold brew as some of the CBD can be lost at high temperatures. Once brewed cold, it can then be heated to make a hot cup of coffee.”

Since they began offering CBD coffee, Reverie owners Megan Denaut and Bruce Petty have been pleased with the reception. “We’ve had a lot of people come in, and there’s been a lot of interest,” Denaut says. “We’re really excited to get the word out.”

Reverie: Coffee and Craft Beer is preparing to celebrate their third anniversary at 21 Front Street in Patterson in October. In addition to the new craft coffee, Reverie also offers an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, a selection of craft beers, a musical champagne brunch on Sundays, and “Burger and Board Games” nights on Fridays and Saturdays.
