Farmer’s Market to Host ‘Farm to Table’ Dinner - Saturday, August 25

On Saturday, June 16, the Pawling Farmers Market opened for its 11th season. The weekly event has grown substantially since its inception and has become a highly anticipated summer tradition in Pawling. Later this summer, the market will also be holding a Farm to Table Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, August 25. Proceeds from the event will go toward the market’s operational expenses and help ensure that the community will have access to locally sourced goods for summers to come.

The Pawling Farmers Market has obtained its status and reputation through careful planning and the efforts of volunteers. “We’re a full volunteer board,” explains Terry Crowe Deegan, organizer of the upcoming Farm to Table Dinner. “We also have the least expensive vendor fee in the Hudson Valley. We do this to attract vendors, and it gives us the ability to be selective. That way, we get the best vendors we can find.” By keeping vendor fees low, the market also enables merchants to see a better financial return for the goods and services they provide. “They’re the ones doing all the hard work,” she adds.

The Farm to Table Dinner will mark the fourth time that the market has held their fundraiser. Funds raised from the evening will cover expenses, including insurance and advertising costs. “It makes sure that the market stays healthy,” says Crowe Deegan.

This year, the event will be held at the farm of Donald and Catherine Heald, at 63 Route 37 South, in Sherman, CT. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour featuring an open bar and hors d’oeuvres. Afterward, guests will enjoy the view as they dine outdoors, with a menu featuring locally sourced fare from area farms and many of the vendors from the Pawling Farmers Market. In addition, there will be a pig roast, live music, and a silent auction featuring gift baskets donated by market vendors.

For guests bringing children, the Farm to Table Dinner will be offering an Old MacDonald Children’s Ticket. Kids will be served promptly at 7:30 p.m. and will have their own table complete with supervised games and activities. The Two by Two Petting Zoo will also be in attendance to entertain youngsters.

Tickets for the event cost $150 if purchased before August 11, and will increase to $175 thereafter. Children’s tickets will be $25 before August 11, and $30 after. Tickets can be purchased in person by cash or check at The Book Cove, 22 Charles Colman Blvd. Spots for the evening are limited.

The Farm to Table Dinner promises to be an enjoyable evening in support of one of the cornerstones of the Pawling community. In addition to providing needed funds for the Pawling Farmers Market, the event will also be a celebration of local food and fellowship. “We're very excited; we love when everyone shows up,” says Terry Crowe Deegan. “It’s going to be very chic and country!”
