Pawling Library Book Sale a Great Success

Over the weekends of May 12 – 13 and 19 –20, residents turned out in droves for the annual Great Pawling Library Book Sale, held this year at the Pawling Fire House on South Street. Throughout the year, the library collected a multitude of books and other media for the sale, with all proceeds going to benefit the Pawling Library.

In all, representatives believe that over 35,000 items were collected and put up for sale over the four-day event. Attendants had their picks from all manner of hardcover and softcover books, and many visitors left carrying bulging shopping bags full of literature.

Attendance this year surpassed all expectations. “This year’s annual book sale had a much larger turnout than we anticipated,” said Pawling Library Director Brian Avery. “We are deeply grateful to the Fire Department and to our many volunteers who enabled us to have such a successful book sale. Thanks also to everyone who signed a petition to have the library’s budget put on the November ballot.”

After the conclusion of the sale, all unsold books were boxed and sent to organizations such as Discover Books and Better World Books, who will hopefully be able to sell or donate them.
