New Construction on East Main Street
Residents and visitors to the Village of Pawling have noticed an abundance of activity on East Main Street in recent months. The property is currently undergoing a complete demolition and rebuilding, with the ultimate goal being a multi-use building that will feature both residential and commercial space.
The building, located at 23 East Main Street, was the former home of Village Frame Shop, Freshcuts Barber Shop, and Pawling Trading Company Coffee and Tea House. Originally built in the late 1800s, the property was in need of numerous repairs, prompting the owners, the Tomassetti family, to begin the arduous process of demolition and rebuilding from the foundation up. Ultimately, two commercial spaces will be available for rent on the bottom floor, with multiple, single-family apartments available above. The building is currently undergoing a complete overhaul and rebuild, which will include new walls, floors, windows, and foundations. In addition, the commercial spaces will be receiving new kitchen facilities, ideal for restaurants. In all, the property contains 3,000 square feet, and can be subdivided and modeled to suit.
The space on the building’s second floor is slated to become eight apartments. Each will feature custom kitchens, granite countertops, and ceramic tile bathrooms. An option for on-premises laundry is also being considered.
The construction is being handled by Dalrymple Construction, Inc., of Pawling under the supervision of Diana Tomassetti and architect J.P. Pirrello. A team of a dozen workers are currently hard at work on the project, including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and expert masons. When completed, the site will also maintain the current aesthetics of the Village of Pawling, similar to that of the Dutcher House on Colman Boulevard. The project will also be modeled to resemble the Tomassetti family’s adjacent property at 33 East Main Street, the former site of Riley’s Garage.
The renovation of the property at 23 East Main Street is scheduled to be completed in early 2019. Currently, no tenants have officially signed on to lease commercial space.
