PHS Thespians Present Anything Goes

Every spring, Pawling High School has its annual theater production. This year, the play is Cole Porter’s Anything Goes, a musical directed and produced by Stacy Dumont. Anything Goes is Cole Porter’s most famous play, a love story that takes place on the SS American during an ocean crossing from New York to London. It is a classic musical, and it’s very popular for school productions due to its wit and glamour. In the lead roles are sophomore Jacob Voudren as Billy Crocker, senior Molly Wolff as Hope Harcourt, Senior Emma Martin as Reno Sweeney, Junior Jared Hollander as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, and Junior Gianna Torres as Moonface Martin.

The play is a chance for all high school students who love art and theater to work together on a large production. Director Dumont chose the play because it is lively, has a lot of large dance numbers, and is full of strong female leads. She felt it would be an exciting challenge for the students in Thespian Society, as they would have to achieve a high level of Old Hollywood-style glamour.

The PHS Thespian Society was aided by the PHS Art Club, who created and painted the large sets under the direction of Phyllis Chadwick. Science Teacher and Varsity Dance Coach Gillian Rinaldo served as choreographer. Band Director Brian Zamek served as Musical Director. The spring play in Pawling has become a community tradition. There has been a spring high school performance in Pawling for more than 20 years, and Mrs. Dumont has been directing for 11 of them. She is known among her students for her spirited and fun-loving support and guidance.

This production has been in rehearsal for most of the current school year, leading up to three performances. The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17, and at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 18. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens.

Lauren Radicchi is a freshman at Pawling High School.
