Celestial Touch Celebrates First Anniversary

At Celestial Touch, visitors will find a unique experience that can benefit body, mind, and soul. Located at 7 Arch Street in the Village of Pawling, the business offers sessions with professional Medium Laura Schek, as well as healing treatments through the process of Reiki. In January, Celestial Touch celebrated its one-year anniversary of providing these unique services to the community.

Mediumship is a method of enabling communication between the living and the spirits in the afterlife. Serving as an intermediary between the world of the living and the world of spirit, mediums can employ a number of different methods. Schek uses clairaudience, clairvoyance, and clairsentience in her readings, enabling her to make contact by hearing, seeing, and feeling. By focusing her attention and abilities to the spirit of a deceased loved one, she is able to receive images and messages. Ultimately, the services aim to help the grieving process by demonstrating the soul’s continuing existence after leaving the physical body. “It’s all about energy,” says Schek. “A medium is able to raise their vibration to connect with someone who has left the physical form. I’m here to help people. I’ve been given this gift to help people through the grieving process, and if they need direction or guidance in their life.”

Laura Schek’s journey to professional mediumship began in childhood. “I always knew that I had an ability growing up,” she explains. “I would know things. When I decided to stay home to raise my children, I would win things on radio contests because I would know the answers to the most random things. I don't know how I knew the information, but I did.” Following the untimely loss of a family member, her abilities began to grow stronger. “That’s when things really started taking off,” she says. “I started experiencing different things.” This led Schek to consult a professional medium about her experiences. The meeting led her to the revelation that she was in fact a medium herself, and she chose to pursue the vocation in service to others.

Schek formally pursued her training at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck. For the next five years she trained extensively with mediums James Van Praagh, Tony Stockwell, Mavis Pittilla, Janet Nohavec, and John Holland, and ultimately gained her professional certification under renowned English medium Lisa Williams. “The training definitely increased my abilities,” she says. “It also taught me the proper, ethical way to do readings.”

In addition to mediumship sessions, Schek is also a Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master. Originally developed in Japan, Reiki is a technique that reduces stress and promotes relaxation and healing. The technique is based on the idea of life force energy present in the body. If this energy is low, the body may become vulnerable to stress or illness. Reiki manipulates this energy to promote good health and happiness. Sessions can be performed with or without physical contact, depending on a visitor’s level of comfort. Benefits of the treatment also include healing from injury, alleviation of digestive issues, and helping to remove blockages of the body’s energy flow. The term Reiki is comprises two words from the Japanese language: Rei, meaning God’s wisdom or higher power, and Ki, which translates to life force energy. Thus, Reiki is “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Originally from Somers, Schek has two sons who attended Trinity-Pawling.  “I became familiar with Pawling through my children,” she explains. “I like it here. I like the Village. This is a great community.”
