On the evening of Sunday, December 17, Rabbi Zalman Sandhaus, from the Pardess Center for Jewish Life in Fishkill, NY, led a gathering of Pawling residents in the Lighting of the Menorah to celebrate Chanukah, the “Fesitval of Lights.”
The gathering took place on the Pawling Green at dusk. Guests enjoyed entertainment by magician Martin Steinberg of Hopewell Junction, traditional Hebrew music, spinning the draydle, delicious potato “latkes” (pancakes), and “sufganyot” (donuts), as well as chocolate candy coins and apple cider. Many area residents joined in the festivities despite the cold. “It was a beautiful Menorah lighting in the village of Pawling,” says Rabbi Sandhaus. “As always, we got to meet some new faces. The smiles on their faces to be a part of the Chanukah celebration were priceless.”
