Village Board Prepares for Holiday Season
The Village Board convened on Tuesday, November 21 for its second meeting of the month. As the holiday season approaches, the Board discussed several matters pertaining to celebrations and events in Pawling in the coming weeks.
To open the meeting, Mayor Robert Liffland expressed his gratitude to all the officials who took part in raising funds for the upcoming Decemberfest celebration. The annual event will take place on Friday, December 1, at 6:00 p.m. outside the Chamber of Commerce Building in the village. “I want to thank everyone for all their hard work for making the Christmas tree lighting happen,” said Mayor Liffland. “A lot of credit goes to Village Trustee Dan Peters for all his hard work. We heard a need, and the Village jumped up to help.” Going forward, village officials will continue to work closely with members of the Chamber of Commerce to facilitate future Decemberfest celebrations.
The Board also approved a public assembly events permit to allow a Christmas Tree to be placed in the bandstand on the village green from December 16 through January 6. The tree will be erected by the Ty Louis Campbell (TLC) Foundation. The organization spreads awareness about pediatric cancer and will be selling ornaments to be placed on the tree to raise funds. When the meeting opened for public comment, officials responded to an inquiry about holiday decorations within the village. Specifically, a resident requested that the decorative Christmas lights on the trees near the Pawling sign on E. Main Street opposite McGrath’s Tavern remain in place beyond the Christmas season. The resident felt that leaving the trees lit could aid in enticing visitors to Pawling during the winter months. The Village Board took the suggestion under advisement and will address the Chamber of Commerce before any action is taken.
The next Village Board meeting will be held on Monday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall on 9 Memorial Drive.
