On Tuesday, November 6, the Pawling Village Board convened for the first of two monthly meetings. The Board discussed several items, including the tentative Garbage and Recycling Budget for next year, an appointment to the Pawling Fire District Board of Commissioners, and a lease extension for the Department of Motor Vehicles.
First on the agenda was the presentation of the tentative 2018 Garbage and Recycling Budget. Next year’s expenditures will see a slight increase in costs for personnel services and salaries. Beginning next year, the Village will also need to begin paying for the removal of recyclable materials at a cost of $20/ton. These increases will ultimately amount to a $2.40/unit charge, or an increase of 1.35%. The Board is also considering a partnership with the Town as part of a Shared Services initiative in the new year. An arrangement with the Town would be beneficial in lowering the cost of trash collection, and discussions are ongoing. There will be a Public Hearing regarding the 2018 Garbage and Recycling Budget on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall, 9 Memorial Avenue.
The Board approved the appointment of Glenn Carey to the Pawling Fire District Board of Commissioners. Mr. Carey will serve a five-year term, beginning on January 1, 2018.
The Board also discussed the approval of a lease extension and Amendment Agreement for the Dutchess County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Located at 20 E. Main Street, the DMV office provides a convenient option for not only Pawling residents, but also for visitors from surrounding municipalities. The Board voted unanimously to approve the lease for another year, citing the office as an asset to the Village. In addition, officials will explore the notion of a multiple year extension in the future.
Finally, the Village Board approved a Public Assembly Event Permit for the Knights of Columbus. The organization will use the Village green from November 29 – January 6 to display their nativity scene for the Christmas season.
The next Pawling Village Board meeting will be held on Monday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall.
