Can You Read Your Body?
You run a small business – and you might not even be aware of it. Right now, as you read this article, you are making complex decisions. Among them, how much light you need to read it, what chair you are sitting in, and whether or not you will read it out loud to another person. You are the sole decision maker regarding the small business you call, “My Body.”
Behind the scenes you have a CEO. It is your brain. It gives you updates and messages all day long regarding your health, mind/body/spirit balance, and more.
Wouldn’t it be fabulous to learn to understand the language of your CEO so you can actively participate in establishing the success (balance) of your small business? If the answer is “yes” then you might do well with a systems-based approach to health and wellness. That is, if you have questions and want clear answers so you can decide how to reduce pain, increase comfort, choose food and exercises (the list goes on) that work well for your unique small business (your body), then you may find the rest of this article to be very informative.
Many people remain unaware that the body is designed to heal. Toward that goal, the brain communicates imbalance through mood, pain, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, snoring, post-nasal drip, and more. Bottom line: If it is a “symptom” then it is a “signal.” This means that the brain (your behind-the-scenes CEO) is communicating that something within your organ systems is out of balance. Your job, as the owner of your small business, is to decode the messages so that you can have a successful, prosperous outcome.
Each body is unique. For some, the morning throat tickle represents overactive sinuses. Your task is to figure out whether your sinuses are working to fight a virus, or, on-the-job through the night to deal with airborne allergens. Each person is different; however, there is an approach that works to address both of these “causes” – saline sinus lavage. There are several methods that work well. Your functional medicine provider can help you choose the one that works best for you.
There are, indeed, a few lifestyle interventions that are effective, across the board, for most people. These include (a) avoiding inflammatory foods and cutting out white flour, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup; (b) getting up to walk or stretch after sitting for 15 minutes; (c) taking a deep cleansing breath upon waking and every few hours throughout the day.
As the owner and operator of your small business, don’t you owe it to yourself to communicate effectively with your CEO to achieve the quality of life that satisfies you in the short and long run? If the answer is “yes” then add a functional medicine provider to your team. Any healthcare provider who says, “I offer evidence-based, patient-centered, systems-based interventions to get to the root of the presenting problem” has the tools to guide you along your healing journey.
