Why are you running for this office?
I have been privileged to hold the position of Pawling Town Clerk for the last 12 years and am excited to continue serving the residents of Pawling. During my tenure as Town Clerk, I have worked hard to make sure the Town Clerk’s office provides efficient, innovative, and excellent service to the residents of Pawling, and I am anxious to continue this very rewarding work.
What are your qualifications for the position?
In my 32 years of dedication to the Town of Pawling, in addition to my position as Town Clerk, I have also served the Town in many other ways, such as serving as Secretary to the Planning and Zoning Boards, Secretary to the Affordable Housing Board, Parkland Advisory Committee, Fire Commissioners and also Assistant Bookkeeper. I earned the “Registered Municipal Clerk” Certification from the New York State Town Clerk’s Association, and received the “Woman of Distinction” award from Senator Terrence Murphy. I served as president of the Dutchess County Town Clerk’s Association for two, two-year terms. This extensive service and experience, along with the experience I have already gained by serving as Pawling Town Clerk, uniquely qualifies me to continue to serve in this position.
What do you hope to accomplish, if elected?
I will continue to expand the electronic storage of Town records, and provide online access to as many records as possible. I will also continue to explore and develop innovative improvements to the Town Clerk’s office procedures, as I have done by creating a process to obtain Transfer Station permits by mail, by utilizing new software to improve utility billing accuracy and efficiency, and by implementing a permanent records retentions system. These were all very successful initiatives and I plan to develop similar innovations so that the Town Clerk’s Office continues to provide efficient and convenient service to all Pawling residents.
What is your educational background?
I have a high school diploma and completed some college courses at Dutchess Community College. I’ve also completed numerous classes related to my job as Town Clerk and related to municipal government.
What else would you like voters to know about you – your family, pastimes, special interests or activities?
I have lived in Pawling since 1983 and raised my three daughters here. I love the sense of community I see and feel living here. The majority of residents truly care about each other and help each other. They are kind and committed to making this the best community it can be. Pawling has so much to offer and is a wonderful place to live. I feel very lucky to live here and also privileged to be in a position where I can make significant contributions to the town and community.
