Pawling Attorney Awarded Super Lawyer Status

Local attorney Brian L. Berlandi has recently attained the highly regarded status of Upstate New York Super Lawyer. Specializing in Business and Corporate Law, Berlandi achieves the distinction not only for himself, but for his law firm, Berlandi, Nussbaum & Reitzas LLP (BNR). Only 5% of attorneys who apply are ultimately awarded this honor. The honor is bestowed by Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters company.

Originally from Boston, Mr. Berlandi completed his undergraduate studies at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. From there, he attended Boston College Law School, graduating in 1999. His legal career began at a pair of Manhattan-based law firms, Pennie & Edmonds, LLP, and Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch LLP.  As an associate with these firms, Berlandi was involved in the creation and protection of trademark portfolios for a variety of businesses, as well as intellectual property, transactional matters, arbitration, and litigation. Honing his skills at these firms would prepare him for later roles with Mercury Partners, a private equity firm in Greenwich, CT, and as General Counsel and Director of Operations for All Access Dental, which includes sites in both New York and Florida. Eventually Mr. Berlandi would transition into his current role at BNR in 2011.

BNR is a general practice firm, with focus on litigation, corporate law, and real estate. BNR has offices in Pawling, White Plains, and New York City. Berlandi represents companies during the merger and acquisition process. He works extensively in the areas of banking, lending, finance, intellectual property, and healthcare transactions. In addition, he serves as an arbitrator for the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) and the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), and is licensed to practice law in New York State and Massachusetts.

To be selected as a Super Lawyer, an attorney must first be nominated by a peer. Following a nomination, a research committee reviews candidates and evaluates them based on experience, honors and awards, special licenses/certifications, representative clients, pro bono work, scholarly lectures, and community service.  “I’m very humbled by the honor of being selected,” Berlandi says. “I also give credit for this success to the many attorneys I have worked with through the years.”

In addition to his legal work, Mr. Berlandi is highly involved with the Pawling community. He has been a member of the Pawling Fire Department for 12 years, and a board member at Christ Church Nursery School and Christ Church on Quaker Hill. Berlandi was also a founding board member for the Pawling Farmer’s Market, and serves as an assistant coach for his son’s youth lacrosse team in Pawling. “I really try to be a good member of the community and give back in any way that I can,” says Berlandi. Pawling, in fact, is a family focus. His wife, Katie Allen Berlandi, was born and raised in Pawling and now serves as the Dean of Counseling at the Trinity-Pawling School.
