The Pawling Record Needs Your Help
At the time of this writing, the Board of Trustees has made the decision to temporarily suspend print editions of The Pawling Record until further notice. Unfortunately, this decision was made in response to the publication’s financial situation. In order to decide on the best way to move forward in a positive direction, the Board and the staff of TPR saw no other option but to cease our printed editions and now provide limited content on the publication’s website. The Pawling Record has taken pride in bringing our readers the very best of community, commerce, and culture for over two years. Now, we must ask that same community for help if we are to continue.
Although The Pawling Record is distributed to our readers free of charge, each edition comes at a cost of roughly $5,000. These funds finance the paper’s high quality printing and distribution, as well as compensation for editorial services, reporting, social media management, layout and graphic design services, and advertising sales commissions. The publication is also fortunate to have a number of contributors who provide written content and photography simply as a service to our readers and the community. In addition, all members of The Pawling Record’s Board of Trustees are unpaid volunteers from a variety of local organizations who graciously dedicate their time because they recognize the important place that the local newspaper holds in the community.
On July 22, The Pawling Record was officially accepted for membership in the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN). This organization is a collective of nonprofit newsrooms aimed at promoting local journalism. As part of this membership, INN will match donations that The Pawling Record receives between November 1 and December 31, 2019 as part of their annual NewsMatch initiative.
Now that production has been temporarily suspended, the Board and staff of The Pawling Record are making an appeal to our readers for assistance as we attempt to move forward and resume publication. Through your support, we hope to not only bring back our printed papers, but also maintain digital content on our website and social media platforms. We ask that you please consider helping us in any way you can, including donations via PayPal, or by pledging to donate funds as part of the NewsMatch program.
