On Saturday September 16, the kind folks from Positively Pawling set up a table and collected items for the Food Pantry of the Pawling Resource Center. Glenn Carey led this fine band of do-gooders and posted a list of needed items the previous week for the Trinity Pawling faculty and on Facebook. The following items were collected through community generosity: 435 rolls of Paper towels & TP and tissues boxes, food, personal care & cleaning items totaling 655 lbs., 205

The Pawling Resource Center’s (PRC) fundraiser, Walk So They May Ride, has experienced an outpouring of corporate and community support in advance of the September 23rd event. Funds received from event sponsors help to support the PRC’s signature programs, which include providing rides to medical appointments and grocery shopping, food delivery to home bound clients, as well as contributing much needed support to the Centers food bank.

Earlier this year, the community was proud to recognize the accomplishments of Weronika Jeziorski, who completed training at the Dutchess County Law Enforcement Academy in May. A graduate of Pawling High School (PHS), Deputy Jeziorski’s accomplishment demonstrates not only the rewards of hard work, but also the realization of her childhood aspirations.
Weronika Jeziorski graduated from PHS in 2013 and attended Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA, where she ob
When Hurricane Harvey made landfall late last month, the country could only watch as the storm brought unprecedented destruction to the state of Texas. This deluge poured more than 24.5 trillion gallons of water into the region, with parts of Houston receiving more than 50 inches of rain. The Category 4 Storm left 82 people dead, more than 94,000 homes damaged or destroyed, and forced more than 30,000 residents into emergency shelters. In the face of such tragedy, relief effo

Last week I had the privilege of discussing the importance of mind/body/spirit balance during a presentation at the Pawling Library. A number of attendees asked about inflammation, herbs, white rice, and garlic; others were interested in learning more about the impact of certain teas and supplements on sleep. Below are a few highlights, together with some clarifications and a few corrections. Lifestyle choices may enhance or distract from inner peace, healing, and wellness. T
If there is one thing I appreciate being able to observe in my role as a retail dietitian, it’s the intersection of nutrition guidance and food industry-trends. In other words, the crossroads at which consumers find themselves when they search the aisles of the supermarket for the foods they believe are the most nutritious for their family, while recalling the latest headline they saw online, a magazine article recently read, or the persuasive package call outs they pass as t

Descriptions of the exotic wildlife of places like the Everglades and Okefenokee swamp and thrilling stories of brave, freedom-seeking slaves sheltered by the evocatively named Great Dismal Swamp in the Carolinas, fascinated me as a child growing up in California. Living in Manhattan as an adult, I had no idea a vast network of swampy wetlands existed just north of me in the counties of Putnam and Dutchess. It wasn’t until my family and I moved to Pawling that I became aware
Earlier this month, it was announced that Paramount Pictures will be filming scenes for an upcoming major motion picture “A Quiet Place” in Pawling. The horror picture will star John Krasinski (“The Office”) and Emily Blunt (“The Girl on the Train”) as the parents of a family haunted by a supernatural entity. Producers were granted use of a farmhouse near Dodge Road and West Dover Road, with specifications that the vegetation be allowed to grow to give the property a dilapida
If that sounds like a rule, well, it is one for me; and I recommend it to everyone. The odds are just too great that a link in an email message will lead to unwanted or even dangerous things. A malware scan is a routine part of a slow-computer tune up and finding a load of malicious software is a much more common occurrence than not. The owner is always surprised and wants to know how it got into their computer! There are several ways that the bad guys get in, and one of t
